The Committee for Adelaide Roads (CAR) was established to provide input into government policy and promote public debate on road transport infrastructure and economic development. The Committee represents the broad community of interests within the road sector.

CAR's submission to the 30 year Plan for Greater Adelaide  

Committee Deputy Chairman Mike Canny says that the group's submission to the draft plan emphasizes the need to take a closer look at how the road system will work in the future.

"Rail is important, particularly if Adelaide is to be a more compact city, but the significance of the road network and its transport corridors appears to have been overlooked in the draft plan".

Bold vision for SA's transport   

The Committee for Adelaide Roads has released its visiion for the state's transport system South Australia's 2030 Transport Plan.

Commenting on the plan CAR chairman Barrie Hosking said ".Our objective in launching the plan is to draw attention to the need for such a vision and to engage the wider public in the debate. "

The association is seeking feedback and will be engaging in a program of meetings with state and local governments and the private sector.

$842 Superway under construction

Construction of the South Road Superway project is progressing with piling and ancillary roadworks completed and construction of piers underway. The project is due for completion at the end of 2013. The 4.8 kilometre road road includes 2.8 kilometres of elevated roadway and is the next stage in the North South Corridor which will eventually link Gillman with Beford Park. (link to project)

South Road Planning Study  

The Department of Planning Transport and Infrastructure (DPTI)  is continuing work onpanning for the remaining sections of the North South corridor. Following completion of the Darlington Transport Study. DPTI is currently carring out detailed planning for the section between the Superway and Anzac Highway.

Southern Expressway duplication  

Construction of the Southern Expressway duplication is underway with the project expected to open for traffic in the first half of 2014. (link to project)

Northern Connector  

Plreliminary planning is underway for the Northern Connector linking the Northern Expressway and The Port River Expressway with the release of the project Impact report. (link to report)

New ratings forSA's highways

The RAA has launched a new ratings system which will enable road users to assess the safety of the states roads. (more)

Melbourne's $18 billion plan to reduce congestion

Construction of $18 billion of rail and road tunnels, improved public transport, cycling and freight transport have been propsed for Melbourne. (more)

SA needs Transport Plan

The state government continues to say that our state does not need a transport plan. 

But the public and key interest groups are not convinced. CAR deputy Chairman Mike Canny explains why the plan is needed.

NSW to develop Transport Master Plan

The NSW government is taking a new approach to transport planning using an extensive consultative process to develop the state's Long Term Transport Master Plan.

 

 

Victor Harbor Road on the agenda

.CAR is continuing to press for the upgrade of the road as a priority given its key role in linking metropolitan Adelaide with the high growth areas on the south coast. 

With traffic volumes already at levels similar to Port Wakefield Road and Sturt Highway the Victor Harbor Road has a high accident rate.
