CAR's submission the Draft 30 year Plan for Greater Adelaide
Committee Deputy Chairman Mike Canny says that the group's submission to the draft plan emphasizes the need to take a closer look at how the road system will work in the future. "Rail is important, particularly if Adelaide is to be a more compact city, but the significance of the road network and its transport corridors appears to have been overlooked in the draft plan".

Bold vision for SA's transport
The Committee for Adelaide Roads has released its visiion for the state's transport system South Australia's 2030 Transport Plan.
Commenting on the plan CAR chairman Barrie Hosking said ".Our objective in launching the plan is to draw attention to the need for such a vision and to engage the wider public in the debate," (media release)

$812 million elevated roadway for South Road
Prime Minister Kevin Rudd and State Premier Mike Rann have announced the construction of an elevated roadway linking the Port River Expressway and Regency Road. The road is the next stage in the North South Corridor which will eventually link Gillman with Beford Park. (link to project)
NS Corridor Study
The Department of Transport Energy and Infrastructure (DTEI) is continuing work on the $70 million Planning Study for the North South corridor. DTEI is currently carring out detailed planning for the southern section of the route in the Bedford Park area.
Auslink network to be extended to include north-south corridor
CAR's push for the north south corridor connection to be included in the Auslink national transport network has been successful with the Prime Minsiter announcing the network will be extended south to include south road to the Southern Expressway. (more)

New ratings forSA's highways
The RAA has launched a new ratings system which will enable road users to assess the safety of the states roads. (more)

CAR has finalised its action plan for the coming year.

For 2008/9 we will build on the progress achieved to date to secure a commitment from both federal and state governments to completing the north south link by 2014..
In launching our own transport vision we will stimulate public debate and increase pressuer on the govrnment to develop a long term plan for transport inthis state.
We intend to continue to press the both government to increase road maintenance expenditure.

Victor Harbor Road on the agenda
CAR understands that DTEI has commenced work on a Planning Study of the Victor Harbor-South Road route. The study is due to be completed in June 2008.
CAR has been pressing for the upgrade of the road as a priority given its key role in linking metropolitan Adelaide with the high growth areas on the south coast. With traffic volumes already at levels similar to Port Wakefield Road and Sturt Highway the Victor Harbor Road has a high accident rate.
